PWY YDYN NI | WHO ARE WE
Rooted deeply in Welsh culture and the mysticism of their surroundings, MWSOG’s music is a lush tapestry of dark enchantment and transcendental folk. Their shows evoke a sense of ritual and transport the audience to a dreamlike dimension, where ancient heritage meets experimental psych.
MWSOG is an ever flowing collective based in South Wales, whose unique blend of ancient Welsh folklore, mysticism, and modern psychedelic textures has captivated audiences and critics alike. Since debuting at All Roads Festival, headlining a sold-out show at The Globe in Cardiff, and curating an exhilarating evening of audio visual ritual & performance at CULTVR, their live performances have quickly earned a reputation for being utterly electrifying and totally unmissable.
In ancient times the most sacred wisdoms of the Celtic people of Britain were tenderly safeguarded in their epic poetry and songs. These meticulously memorized compositions would be performed in the famed halls of great Kings and Queens of the Cymry. The origin of this most hallowed tradition stretches back many thousands of years, deep into the misty past where now only meager and precious fragments of this sacred ritual custom now exist. The custodians charged with the fate of keeping these enshrined primeval records alive and well have been known by many names; the Druids, the Awenyddion, the Cyfarwydd, Dyn Hysbys or Swynwraig, but most famously today, the Bards. No matter their title, all of them had one purpose in common, the pursuit of a magical force of divine inspiration - the Awen.
The MWSOG collective assembled upon a mutual longing and love for the deep magic & ritual that lie at the heart of Welsh culture, ancient and modern.
Having made whirlwind rumblings across the Welsh underground arts and music scene, MWSOG have come together with an aim to present the most exciting aspects of Welsh language, folklore and culture - inspired by the wild lands of Wales that inform it’s deep poetic nature and voice of it’s people.
MWSOG are a newly formed Welsh psych-folk collective who use ritual and music in their performance to present themes of Welsh Mythology and Mabinogi Magik. Their debut Cardiff show on September 26th 2024 was sold out at The Globe with a raging cauldron of fiery Welsh war drums, ethereal ritual flute, resonant druidic choral chants woven carefully into a cloth of straight up, thick psychedelic groove. For fans of GOAT, Lankum, Carreg Lafar, Pentangle, Led Zeppelin, Fairport Convention, Yr Hwntws, Fotheringay, & Steeleye Span.
“ MWSOG had us captivated from the very first note”
~ Llangollen Fringe
“The paganistic, other-worldly, gypsy rock (is there such a genre?) from MWSOG, stirring up Ty Pawb”
~ FOCUS WALES, Wrecsam
“If there’s one event that stands out from the weekend it’s Mwsog’s utterly mesmerising late night set of psychedelic Welsh folk on Sunday night. Their dark mysticism and energy seem to capture the spirit of this place on the banks of the river Taf. A world where reality and dreams intertwine.”
We’ve been lucky to curate stages at Laugharne for years now, but this felt different — like the beginning of something rare and resonant. Mwsog delivered more than a performance; it was loud, a cry echoing from our past, stirring something ancient and new. A moment-defining band whose echoes will ripple far beyond Wales — carving out their own myth, step by step, stage by stage.”
